As the Lead Mixologist, your creative flair and passion for beverage will lead your Bar team to superior beverage experiences to our guests. Though your effective leadership and innovation, you will create drinks and menus that place The Hotel Fort Des Moines’ In Confidence speakeasy on the map as the "Best Cocktail Lounge" in Des Moines. Our Lead Mixologist must be proactive in handling guest needs, be highly engaging, service-oriented, and take a creative approach to problem solving. The primary responsibility of our Lead Mixologist is to deliver and exceed guest expectations, exceed the Hotel’s vision, resolve challenges, and maintain excellent communication with guests, peers, and management. You and your vision will drive the future expectations of our cocktail program!

What you'll be doing...

    • Prepare the bar for service by cleaning guest and service spaces and stocking essential supplies for ease of use. Retrieve liquor based on requisition.
    • Learn details on each menu item to provide food and beverage recommendations to guests, highlighting unique restaurant offerings and specials.
    • Prepare cocktails and other beverages to specification with accuracy, honoring special requests and ensuring guest delight.
    • Effectively engage and build rapport with guests to identify needs and ensure guest satisfaction.
    • Proactively communicate special needs or requests and take ownership to resolve guest challenges, working collaboratively with the restaurant team.
    • Maintain cleanliness of restaurant spaces throughout and after shift, completing side work and stocking as needed or assigned.
    • Always maintain professionalism consistent with restaurant and company expectations.
    • Know and communicate restaurant emergency procedures; inform and assist guests in emergencies.
    • Take on additional tasks as necessary or assigned by hotel leadership

      • If the guest needs more assistance than you can provide, it is your responsibility to notify the appropriate department or individual
      • Greet, serve, interact and entertain guests courteously and in a timely manner with an upbeat attitude
      • Respond to guest inquiries and requests, concerns and complaints regarding beverages and correct and resolve in a courteous and respectful manner
      • Anticipate guest needs and inform guest about venues, menus, specials, pricing and directions•
      • Knowledgeable about our food, beverages and other Hotel’s functions and services
      • Recognize and cultivate regular guests and repeat business
      • Report any incidents of theft, vandalism, or violations to management
      • Organize and prioritize service per appropriate service sequence
      • create/follow drink recipes when dispensing drinks
      • Up sell and suggestively sell menu items, specials and beverages at all times•
      • Monitor potentially intoxicated and/or disruptive Guests and promptly bring to a supervisor’s attention
      • Ensure daily/nightly/weekly and opening/running/closing duties are completed
      • Polish and wash glassware throughout shift
      • Prepare guest checks through POS terminal functions
      • Process guest payment by cash, credit card, venue comps and all other tender types
      • Assist Sales Team and Director of Food and Beverage to execute Private events
      • Assist in the development of promotional plans in order to increase business levels and sales
      • Ability to submit guest to the venues guest list, table reservations and focus on the development of personal clientele list

Requirements...

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in primary language(s) used in the workplace
  • 8+ hours per day; stand and walk frequently throughout the workday
  • Lift, lower, and maneuver up to 30 pounds frequently
  • Reach, bend, stoop, and pivot frequently throughout the workday
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a fast-paced restaurant/nightclub, or similar or related
  • Ability to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English
  • Polished appearance and demeanor
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to obtain & maintain full knowledge and understanding of company and department rules and regulations, policies and procedures
