Position Statement:

The Director of Leisure Strategy is responsible for the overall Leisure strategy for the hotel, using analytics and data to anticipate market trends and identify new opportunities with new leisure partners.  Reporting to the hotel’s Commercial Director to create a long-term vision for the hotel’s leisure playbook and leading the Leisure Sales team to expand existing relationships and solicit new customer accounts, while consistently striving to maximize revenue and promote relationships through effective negotiation of guest rooms for the Hotel del Coronado.  This role also owns all initiatives and tactics to grow the lucrative Entertainment business for the hotel’s Shore House and Beach Village neighborhoods.

Position Summary

  • Lead the existing Leisure sales team members to develop and implement business plan for top accounts focusing on inbound business to the San Diego and Coronado Markets with a high volume of sales leads and working with customers in multiple time zones.
  • Responsible for team goals, performance reviews, incentive payout calculations.
  • Attend weekly Marketing/Revenue meetings to ensure hotel is staying ahead of the booking window and launching initiatives pro-actively.
  •  Manage travel calendar and expenses for the Leisure sales team members.
  • Approve team member requests for PTO.
  • Work with Commercial Director and Revenue team to provide accurate forecasts and market trends.
  • Instigate and create opportunities for marketing promotions and provide monthly reports on the ROI of leisure marketing campaigns, partner promotions, and market capture against the comp set. 
  • Responsible for reporting on complete qualifications of each account to determine at minimum: total revenue potential, booking patterns and histories, decision making factors, business/personal needs, resources, competition, and marketing.
  • Work closely with the Leisure Sales and Marketing team to develop, maintain, and implement marketing plans and initiatives for key accounts.
  • Solicit and develop new Entertainment accounts to generate business opportunities for the Hotel del Coronado.
  • Travel to meet and develop client base as necessary including trainings, tradeshow participation, FAM trips, and retail travel agencies.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with assigned accounts through ongoing communication.
  • Partner closely with all related departments such as Revenue Management, Marketing, group sales, e-commerce, and Operations to help guide overall property strategies and tactics as appropriate.
  • Continually uncover business opportunities including group tour and entertainment business.
  • Other project and business development activities as directed by management.
  • Manage property specific promotions, annual Consortia/FIT/LNR/CNR RFPS, contracts and relevant communications to accounts.

Supportive Functions:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the company.

  •        Direct the efforts of the sales/coordinators/reservations on site through effective oral and written communication while overseeing rate, and occupancy commitments for leisure transient room sales within each of the hotels, (Main Hotel, Shore House, Beach Village). 
  •        Compiles and/or directs the preparation of reports pertaining to the operation of the leisure sales market to include, but not limited to the annual and monthly Forecast, Lead Management System, Account Production Reports, and Meetings.
  •        Develop and conduct persuasive verbal sales presentations to prospective clients. Meet with and entertain clients some of which will require travel.
  •        Organize and/or attend scheduled Sales Department and related meetings.
  •        Other duties as assigned by Commercial Director.

    Required Qualifications:

  •        Minimum Education: High School Diploma
  •        Minimum Years of Experience: 5 years
  • Management Experience (type): Leisure Sales Management experience.

    The annual salary range for this role is $130K to $140K and is based on applicable and specialized experience and location.
